It's Very Quiet Where's Thomas?
The other morning when I was getting ready for the day the kids were playing around me. They both left to go to Arden's room. Arden came back in after a few minutes with me but Thomas did not follow her. It was very quiet so I went and checked on him. Luckily I had the camera upstairs. This is what I found.
He was sneaking Arden's orange juice. Priceless.

My Mommy
Last week Arden's school had a Mommy and Muffins Day. The kids sang songs and we wore fancy bonnets that the kids made for us. The biggest surprise was the questions they asked the kids about their Mom's.
Here's what Arden had to say.
I had a good laugh over these. I can't believe she thinks I'm 50! The others mother's kids thought they were 4 or 5. I guess 50 is the new 30! I also thought it was funny that she thought I liked to wash sheets in my free time.
A few months ago she spilt something on her clothes and she told me that it would be OK because I could just do some laundry so I told her that I don't like to do laundry in my free time. I guess she didn't hear me right.
Here's what Arden had to say.
My Mommy
My mommy is 50 years old.
She weighs 51 pounds and is 1 feet tall.
My mommy likes to wear her pretty dress.
She likes to cook pancakes and it tastes good.
She helps my daddy pick up the toys around the house.
Mommy always tells me to clean up my toys.
She likes to wash the sheets in her free time.
I like it when my mommy cooks.

A Tunnel and a Boy
Since the weather has been beautiful we have been going to the park. Thomas has experienced the swings and the slides. But I don't think he experiened the tunnel before because he was so excited.
At first he was a little apprehensive heading into the tunnel but once he side he became really excited. He was laughing and turning in circles. He loved looking at me through the holes and reach through them.
It was hard to get pictures because he was so excited he couldn't sit still long enough.
I am so thankful the weather is a little warmer because we are having so much fun outside.

A Silly Hat
At Steeplechase it is tradition for the women to wear fancy hats. One lady in particular caught Arden's eye. As soon as she walked by Arden exclaimed "Mommy! Look a silly hat!"
The woman stopped and asked Arden if she liked her hat. Arden replied it has eggs on it. They carried on a brief conversation where Arden ended up touching the eggs. The lady answered Arden's questions about the hat. Arden is usually shy but really liked her hat and wanted to know more. I was so proud of her for her confidence.

Riders Up
Last weekend we headed to Aiken, SC where we used to live to atten the annual Steeplechase. The horses race 2 laps around the track jumping 12 barriers. The event is huge for the town and everyone shows up and tailgates and cheers the horses and riders on. We love catching up with all our friends and this is the perfect chance to see everyone at the same time. Plus did I mention that it was sunny and about 75 degrees. A perfect day.
For some reason every year there are riders thrown from the horses and it is not pretty and for some reason we always seem to be at the jump where this happens. It is so scary but it is still tons of fun watching the horses race and jump. The carriage ride is fun to watch the horses and buggy's ride by.
Thomas loved it this year. He kept pointing at the horses and yelling. He was a trooper throughout the day and of course he loved all the food.
Arden really enjoyed herself. She played with all of the kids and even made a few friends throughout the day. She cried when the day was over and she realized we had to leave. She's already asked if we can go back again next year.

Overheard
Today Arden's teachers told me that she had a moment that just made them laugh and enjoy her so much.
They told me that they were doing their bible study and teaching the children about Jesus entering the city on a donkey and the people waved palm branches and yelled Hosanna!
The kids were given palm branches with the word Hosanna written on it. The teaches asked the kids if anyone knew what the word said. They were told they would be given a high five if they knew the word.
The teachers said that everyone looked at the word with confusion. Then Arden exclaims "It's the Hunchback of Notre Dame!" The teachers said they were so pleased that she had came up with a word that started with an H even though it wasn't right.
I was pleased with her too! I love that girl.

1 Year Stats
It is still hard for me to believe that Thomas is 1 year old. In one hand it seems like he was just born and the other it seems like he's always been with us.
His year appoitment was this week. He's doing great and scored across the board developmentally.
Here's where he stands at a year.
Weight: 20 lbs 8 oz. 10%
Length: 30 1/2 inches 75 %
Head Circumference: 45 cm 10%
He's finally grown into his body. Both his doctor and us believe he has a high metabolism. He eats all the time.

Happy Birthday Dear Thomas
Thomas loves birthday cake. He was excited having Mickey on the cake plus he loved the taste of it. He did not make a mess except with the icing on his hands.
He was so cute while everyone sang happy birthday to him. He has two candles on his cake because one is to grow on. It is a tradition that we've always done at our house.

His First Birthday!!!
Today we celebrated Thomas' first birthday. I cannot believe that he's a year old. This year has gone by so fast. Much faster than I remember Arden's first year going by.
Thomas is a sweet little boy. He is very laid back but determined. He knows what he wants and is willing to let you know if doesn't like it right away. He loves to eat and he adores his sister.
Here's the birthday boy on his birth day.

Thomas,
It has been an amazing year. You've added so much to our lives and we are so glad to have a little boy around. I can't wait to watch you grow.
I love you.

He Loves Book
Thomas loves books. He flips through them quickly but if something catches his eye he will stop and will study it.
The other day I went through Arden's bookshelf and took out all of the board books and gave them to Thomas. He was so excited. He already has a couple of favorites. I am so thankful that he enjoys looking at books and having them read to him.

A Bug's Life
Yesterday, while Arden was having quiet time she had to go potty. I'm working during that time and Dave is downstairs.
All of a sudden Arden starts screaming "A bug! Mommy! A bug!" Of course I just took a call and was with a customer. Arden kept yelling louder and louder and more frantic. Even though I put my customer on mute and told her that I would be there in a minute. Dave came running upstairs to help Arden because he was concerned as he could hear her all the way downstairs through 2 closed doors.
Both of us are imagining the biggest and ugliest bug that was more than likely crawling on her.
Here's a picture of the bug Dave ended up disposing.
That is one square of toilet paper. The bug is shown as actual size. It was a gnat. Arden could have stepped on it herself.
I will give her that it was a bug but the size of the bug did not match the level of intensity of Arden's calls.

Today's Nap
Arden wants to give up her nap but her body just won't let her. No matter how hard she fights it she still falls asleep.
Today she told me she wasn't tired but since Thomas has to nap we compromised and told her that she could play quietly in her room. There were a few times that she came in while I was working and asked me a few questions. But all in all she did a great job playing quietly.
She was starting to get restless so I re-introduced her to her radio. She wanted to listen to her princess CD. She forwarded and rewound until she found her favorite songs. Finally, the music was playing through all the songs.
I went to check on her and this is what I found.
